GHANA · WEST AFRICA
Castles, canopy, and the country that calls you home.
Cape Coast and the castle dungeons, the canopy walk at Kakum, Mole's walking safaris, the kente looms of Kumasi, and the markets and surf of Accra. The tours worth taking, across the whole country.
Only in Ghana
Three things only Ghana can give you.
Castle tours, rainforest hikes and culture days happen all over the world. These three belong to Ghana alone: the crossing, the homecoming, the canopy. Build the rest of the trip around them.
On the Atlantic
The Door of No Return
Cape Coast and Elmina are UNESCO-listed castles where the transatlantic slave trade was run for three centuries. You stand in the holding dungeons, then step through the Door of No Return, the last threshold before the ships. No other coast on earth carries this.

A homecoming
Be given a Ghanaian name
Ghana invited the diaspora home with the Year of Return, and the welcome still holds. In an Akan naming ceremony an elder pours libation and gives you a name tied to the day you were born. It is a rite of belonging you will not find anywhere else.

Above the rainforest
Cross the canopy walkway
Seven rope-and-plank bridges strung forty metres up through the crowns of an ancient rainforest, one of only a handful of canopy walks in Africa. You cross at eye level with hornbills and butterflies, the forest floor a long way below.

Start in the capital
Every Ghana trip begins in Accra.
The markets, Independence Square, the old town at Jamestown and the coast road out. The most popular way to find your feet on day one.
The favourites
Ghana's Most Popular Tours
Cape Coast, Kakum, Mole and Accra. The tours at the heart of most Ghana trips, in one place.
By region
Pick your part of Ghana.
Each region is its own trip. Accra for the markets and the independence story. Cape Coast for the castles. Kakum for the canopy. Mole for the elephants. Kumasi for the kente and the kingdom.
By experience
Or choose by what you came for.
Castles if you came for the history. Mole if you came for the elephants. Kakum for the canopy, Kumasi for the kente, a cooking class for the jollof, a naming ceremony for the homecoming.
Beyond the Return
Ghana calls its family home.
In 2019 Ghana opened its arms to the diaspora with the Year of Return, four centuries after the first ships left this coast. The welcome never closed. Trace a family line at the castles, stand at the Door of No Return, take an Akan name in a naming ceremony, and pour libation with people who call you cousin.

Up north
Walk with the elephants at Mole.
Ghana's biggest park is open savanna, not jungle, and you explore it on foot beside an armed ranger. Elephants at the waterhole, antelope, baboons, birds by the hundred. Three Mole trips we’d build a northern leg around.
The Ashanti kingdom
Gold, kente and the Asante court.
Kumasi is still a royal city: the Manhyia Palace, the vast Kejetia market, and Bonwire village where the kente looms have run for centuries. Our three picks for a day inside Ashanti culture.
Beyond the cities
Waterfalls, hills and the Volta.
Boti Falls and Umbrella Rock, the Aburi gardens on the ridge above Accra, the Wli falls on the Volta side, and the great lake itself. The green, easygoing side of Ghana, three trips worth the drive.
